Promise Not to Tell Review

If you haven’t read 2018’s Jayne Ann Krentz’s Promise Not to Tell, then stop while you’re ahead from reading this review because Promise Not to Tell has a cliffhanger that I wasn’t expecting nor did I appreciate. Gallery owner Virginia Troy has a troubled past stemming from her childhood and time in a cult while living at a compound. A fire erupts causing her to lose her mother and everything she thought she knew.

Survivor of the fire and fellow artist, Hannah Brewster sends Virginia Troy one last painting before committing suicide. In the painting, she details the man, Zane, who she knows caused havoc within her life during her time at the compound. There’s one problem though: the man died in the fire. Virginia sets out to find out the truth. Enter Cabot Sutter, private investigator, who like Virginia and Hannah was one of the children kept at the compound as well.

Hearing the recent events, he vows to help Viriginia and get to the truth about Hannah’s death, whether or not Zane is actually alive, while also unveiling parts of himself and his past. What unfolds is a mystery unlike no other filled with action, suspense, and romance. The truth about Zane is revealed, the reason behind why Hannah commited suicide is discovered, and key players in this cat and mouse game prove to stop at nothing in order to fulfill the goals they have in place.
