Not Finished Loving You Review

Jaceon Palmer’s heart shattered when he watched his college sweetheart, Alexis Monroe, walk out of his life. It was gut-wrenching for both of them, but Alexis refused to compromise on wanting children someday while Jaceon focused on his career, feeling that he couldn’t balance both effectively when the time came.

And so, Alexis made the difficult choice to close that chapter. Years later, she found happiness in marriage and motherhood, having two children with her husband Gary. Her life felt complete. But life’s unpredictability struck, forcing Alexis to return to her parents’ home with her two kids. A serendipitous encounter with her first love, Jaceon, reignites old feelings and the realization that perhaps, neither of them had truly moved on, as depicted in author Kimberly Brown’s Not Finished Loving You

First, let’s celebrate Black love because readers rarely see books that represent healthy romantic relationships between African American people. Second, I loved Brown’s depiction of Jaceon’s willingness to step up and be a father figure to Alexis’s kids. Again, we rarely see this in the African American community. Yes, Jaceon has his flaws, but he’s a standup guy. He acknowledged his mistakes and was willing to do what it took to win Alexis’s heart and her children’s.

I appreciated the vivid scenes, engaging storyline, and the wonderful representation of two people willing to fight for something as precious and pure as love. Not Finished Loving You is a beautiful love story that is sure to have readers enthralled to the end! The Thing About Home Review

“Love had one job, and that was to add to the joy I already had.” – Casey Black.

You need self-fulfilled love within your life before allowing someone else to enhance that love and make it richer. It doesn’t matter if it’s a platonic or romantic relationship, as Casey Black discovered firsthand in Rhonda McKnight’s The Thing About Home.

After being left at the alter on what would’ve been her seven-year vow renewal to Drew, Casey uproots from New York, finding herself in Georgetown, South Carolina, trying to pick up the pieces of her broken heart while also meeting her Dad’s side of the family for the first time due to her mother keeping the history about her Dad a secret.

Casey is heartbroken, confused, nervous, and apprehensive, yet excited and willing to take this journey. She uncovers a rich family history filled with love, understanding, peace, simplicity, and hope. She rediscovers herself, creates a loving and purposeful relationship with her Dad’s family, and amends situations in her past that left her feeling gutted. Casey Black has found wealth, joy, and, most importantly, love. She’s happily discovered the ability to love herself and allow others to wholeheartedly and sincerely love her.

The Thing About Home will make you picture your home and reminisce about what you did, the food you ate, the people you encountered, first loves, heartbreaks, etc. This book invites you into a warm embrace, never letting you go. It’s that good! The reader can feel the essence of family, the powerful and welcoming roots. You see the characters in their elements because of McKnight’s beautiful storytelling.

I love the book cover. It immediately reels you into the South. I’ve never been, but I can envision it being something like McKnight wrote in her book, and my heart jumps for joy. I fell more in love with Casey and Nigel’s love for one another the more I read. I smiled at Casey’s unforgettable bond with her Grandmother, Auntie, and other family members. And I was over the moon at how the book ended. The Thing About Home is a well-rounded written piece of literature that has the reader falling in love with the characters, appreciating a compelling story, and understanding the importance that the meaning of home can have for some.

Rhonda McKnight’s The Thing About Home is available everywhere books are sold.

Temper Me Review

Temper Me is the last story from the Romey U series written by Alexandria House. Readers meet Brooklyn Dembélé and Vann London. The history between these two spans over thirteen years. Brooklyn and Vann met when she was in college, carrying an on-again, off-again secret romance. Although Vann made his intentions clear upfront, opting for non-commitment and casual hookups, he had a change of heart the moment he and Brooklyn were intimate.

Brooklyn had men crawling at her feet, but none satisfied that urge like Vann. Fast forward some years later, and that young, wide-eyed college girl is no more. Brooklyn is divorced, has a child, and is trying to pick up the pieces from a life she’d grown accustomed to that she no longer has.

On the other hand, Vann is recovering from a health scare that affected him mentally and physically and has decided to pause his career and head back home to figure some things out. When Brooklyn and Vann reconnect, sparks fly, the butterflies return, and the yearning to be with one another again ignites a flame neither one can ignore.

But everything isn’t roses and sunshine. They both have things left unsaid they need to address while introducing new people into the fold and acknowledging the elephant in the room, which is revealing their secret love affair to their family and friends all those years ago. Get ready for one hell of a rollercoaster ride filled with love, heartache, honesty, romance, and acceptance.

Temper Me is a nice way to end this series. All the stories flow together. (Teach Me, Touch Me, and Temper Me). I still stand by Teach Me being my favorite of the three, and reading these novels amps up the fairytale/imagination aspect of thinking that something like what each of these women went through could happen in real life. However, it also drives home that this is a work of fiction, but it is nice to escape for a little while.

Overall, I enjoyed each story in its own right. Each book had its specific voice and trials and tribulations while connecting together to provide the readers with a fantastic ending. I appreciate a good, solid love story, and Alexandria House delivered it three times. I recommend reading all three if you’re into African American fiction that gives you all the feels (love, romance, heartache, and solid characters). Temper Me by Alexandria House is available everywhere books are sold.

Be Careful What You Wish For Review

Be Careful What You Wish For has so many layers. There’s love, loss, identity, the understanding and importance of having faith. It is the belief that despite the trials and tribulations you may endure that pain doesn’t last always. In this story, one woman learns who she is and what she’s capable of, and in doing that, she’s able to reclaim her heart’s desire.

Laura J. Wellington welcomes readers into the life of Evie. What she yearns for is an unconventional type of love, and she finds it in Rick Remington. Rick has this zest for life, and meeting Evie only amplifies it. Her essence captures him, and he does the same for her. They fall in love, get married, and have children.

But their fairytale doesn’t last forever. Rick has cancer. This news rocks the family to their core. Be Careful What You Wish For is a story about forgiveness, a story about learning how to let go, and at its center; it’s a story about finding love, whether that be within yourself, family, friends, or with a partner.

I appreciated this novel because of the story it told. Evie and Rick’s story could be mine or yours. Wellington’s book reads as if it’s real life. The characters and plot were solid. I could picture the conversations between each character, the places they traveled, the emotions they felt. These are some of the things that draw you in as a reader, and I was invested. I noticed a few punctuation errors, but nothing that deterred me from finishing this book.

Be Careful What You Wish For is a beautifully written story. If you love romance, stories that aren’t one-dimensional, have engaging dialogue, insightful real-life lessons, and will have you hooked from start to finish, I suggest Laura J. Wellington’s Be Careful What You Wish For. This book is available everywhere books are sold.

Persistence Pays Off For Novelist Skylar Nightingale

“If one door closes, I’m onto the next one. How will you succeed if you don’t try?” – Skylar Nightingale, Young Adult romance author

Skylar Nightingale’s Young Adult romance Mine Forever released May 23rd of this year, explores the ups and downs of teenage love and self-acceptance. Morgan Lee Reviews went one on one with Skylar Nightingale as she shares the inspiration behind Mine Forever, advice she has for other authors, as well as what she’s working on next.

Morgan Lee Reviews: Who is Skylar Nightingale, and what inspired your passion of wanting to become an author?

Skylar Nightingale: I am a determined romance author who likes to help and encourage others. My imagination is constantly going. I’m often thinking of new ideas. So instead of keeping them inside, I set them free—writing them down on paper or typing them out.

MLR: What was the inspiration behind your newly released YA romance novel Mine Forever, and what can readers expect?

SN: I love reading Young Adult Novels and watching Young Adult Movies. I also have two teenagers at home. It almost came naturally to write a story about young love, and friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Readers can expect high romance, teenage angst, friendship, and self-acceptance.

MLR: Explain your writing process?

SN: Initially, it becomes an idea. Then, it grows, and as I begin to write the words flow. I don’t have an outline process. I write whatever comes to my mind and heart.

MLR: What advice would you have for other authors?

SN: Keep perfecting your craft. Keep learning and growing. Attend seminars if you are able to, and if possible, join a critique group in your area.

MLR: Is there anything else you’re working on that you’d like to mention?

SN: I’m thinking about writing a part two for Mine Forever. While I’m doing that, I’m working on a New Adult Novel—a forbidden romance.

Skylar Nightingale declares she’s persistence. When asked what she wants people to take away from this interview, she states, “I want people to get to know me as an author.” It’s apparent that she’s headed in the right direction, and I can’t wait to see what more she has in store.

Mine Forever is available on Amazon and wherever else books are sold. If you haven’t already, be sure to follow Skylar on social media.

Indecision Review

I have to say, Indecision by Evelyn Montgomery was not what I was expecting. I think it’s also important to mention that romance novels are not something I’m really interested in. I am more of a mystery/thriller type reader. With that being said, Fuller’s Indecision has taken a love story between two people and flipped it on its head.

This story has made me rethink my interest in romance novels. Indecision isn’t just about romance. It has action, suspense/mystery, and some steamy love scenes I can appreciate. Readers are introduced to Evelyn Monroe. A budding journalist on the quest of fulfilling her goal of working for the L.A. Times.  Her friend, Gwen, is by her side rooting her on by any means necessary. Evelyn feels unstoppable and is unwilling to let anything prevent her from her lifelong dream, that is until Noah Stewart enters her life and makes her question everything she thought she knew and wanted.

A southern boy with a sweet and mesmerizing charm, Noah has sworn off love due to an unfortunate heartbreak, and like Evelyn, chooses to focus on his work as a construction worker. That all changes when he meets Evelyn one night while in a bar and sparks fly between the two. Soon begins a love affair so deep and real that neither Noah, Evelyn, or their family and friends know what to do.

Noah must now contemplate a vow he chose never to break because he’s falling in love with Evelyn. And Evelyn is falling in love with him. Noah is willing to risk it all for the woman he considers to be the love of his life, but is she? Thus, begins the constant battle they have with each other and themselves.

When I first read the title and saw the cover, I automatically thought this book would be a simple girl meets boy, he cheats, she leaves, and now she’s left dealing with the aftermath of her decisions. But Indecision was so much more. I appreciated the time the author took in developing each character, the use of imagery throughout the novel, and the constant suspense. This novel reads more like a real-life story rather than a work of fiction. And for those of you who haven’t read it, spoiler alert, there’s a cliffhanger.

If you’re not a fan of them, then this book isn’t for you. I personally love a good cliffhanger, so I can’t wait to see what happens next with part two! Will Noah and Evelyn’s relationship last?

Indecision is available on Amazon, and according to the author, part two will be available February of this year.
